Teaching Kids About Dental Health

Mar 24, 2017

Helping your kids learn how to take care of their teeth is one of the most important things you can do as a parent, and it can have a lasting effect on their future health. Here are three ways you can teach your kids about good dental health.

Give Kids Some Control

Giving little ones some control when it comes to taking care of their teeth such as choosing their toothbrush or creating a special song you sing while they brush, can help give them a sense of control and autonomy when it comes to their dental health.

Lead by Example

Kids love to copy others, especially their parents. For once, copying can come in handy when it’s time to take care of their teeth. Make brushing and flossing a family activity so that you can show them how it’s done and help correct them if they need it.

Regular Checkups

Visiting the dentist regularly can help keep your child’s dental health on track and catch cavities or other problems before they get worse. Regular checkups can also help kids to be more comfortable seeing the dentist in the future.

You can set your child up for a lifetime of healthy teeth when you stress the importance of dental health early on. To learn more about how to teach your kids about dental health, call P.A. Daniel Jr. DDS at 919-734-4716.
